Artist Statement

My photographs are entrenched in the narratives of daily life, particularly those surrounding one's relationship to nature and how it is mediated by built spaces and everyday objects. Winter Flags (East Village, New York) is part of a series of individual images of flora and fauna trapped or tangled by man-made materials: behind windows, encircled by fences, stuck inside greenhouses or wrapped within a string of lights. I try to capture the layers, texture and lines of these often inadvertently beautiful meetings.
