I started drawing birds in 2001 when I was living in a basement in Brooklyn. Even underground they can cheer you up. The rose-breasted grosbeak is a favorite, and this drawing is actually a modello for a wall drawing that's in my home now. (My family and I have breakfast with an eight-foot version of this every morning.) I think, really, we all just want to look in a bird's eyes and have them look back and miraculously be our friend and sing us songs. Here is that chance.
