Artist Statement

This small edition of artist books as maps, as ornaments remind me of starbursts in a night sky—prisms of light trailing secret messages down to us living below.

The patterns on each book come from drawings of the bark of ancient redwood and sequoia trees, along with line tracings from aerial land maps.

The end of a year cycle, where the holiday season resides, is a time to reflect on where we are and where we might want to be heading, as individuals, as communities, as a universe. I am imagining these objects as foldable pocket maps with tales from earth, sky & everything in between, to quietly guide us on our way.

Details

+ Ornaments measure approx. 2.75" high closed and approx. 8" high fully opened. Ribbon is approx. 7" long.
+ Each ornament is an original, handmade artwork and varies slightly—something we particularly love about these pieces!
+ Hanging instructions: Untie the ribbon and open the pages so covers are back-to-back to unfold the star. Tie ribbon together to secure book open, then tie a hanging loop using remaining ribbon.
