Artist Statement

I've now painted over 600 Ideal Bookshelf sets, and the sheer quantity makes the project even more interesting for me, all those souls depicted through their 10,000+ favorite books. As you might imagine, I have a giant and ever-expanding list of books I'd like to own and/or read (and stacks of new books sitting in front of shelves that won't fit them). A couple times a year I try to collect what I've learned and make a few genre-based collections, highlighting some of the most amazing ones people have chosen or recommended. I'm a big fan of Juergen Teller, I love Tavi Gevinson's Rookie Yearbook One and the Kalmans' classic (un)FASHION is completely brilliant. But while I love individual titles, what really keeps me going is how the colors and sparkle and skin on these spines come together.
