Artist Statement

In my personal work, I am consistently interested in drawing people and places in every day situations. After randomly attending a modern dance performance at BAM, I became interested in drawing dancers. It started with just a few small drawings in my sketchbook and has expanded into a series of bigger paintings including this one. I don't plan the composition or sketch in pencil. It's very spontaneous, which means a figure might wind up out of proportion or an element might collide with another in an awkward way, but I appreciate those imperfections.
