Yet, after several years of this, I realize I'm barely scratching the surface. Just when I think I've got a handle on capturing these famously gritty streets, I turn a corner and realize just how infinitely deep and rich this town really is. My snowstorm images of Brooklyn's Prospect Park are cases in point. At first glance, they might be mistaken for wilderness landscapes. Then, lamps lining a path come into focus, and faint hints of distant benches. Tiny details emerge and wilderness trekkers become a dog walker or a couple on a park hike. New York City proves to be as hard to pin down as ever. There's one thing that has shown me how pervasive sexist shit still is AND helped me feel better about all the things being done to overcome it: the She-Woman Misogyny Haters Club, started by Ms. Jen Bekman on Facebook. Despite the name, there are both male and female members, and many of them gave their excellent input on what books made them the feminists they are today (like We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie), or taught them that it's totally awesome to be a girl (A Wrinkle in Time!) or woman. There are even a few new books by club members, including Grace Bonney's In the Company of Women and Julie Scelfo's The Women Who Made New York.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0265/3475/files/U2Dsh3mBH_cOEQlvI6EjvKX0fPU9-4_2Jg3BYO2KYI.png?v=1683230223
gas-station-kern-county-california
Gas station. Though taken in 1938, between major election years, this particular image hits home in 2016. The months leading up to today's presidential election feel like they’ve lasted a lifetime, filled with scandal and intrigue, fear-mongering and fact-twisting. The two candidates couldn’t be more dissimilar, so each debate—on television or around the dinner table—has been heated.
