Artist Statement

Heinzman casts and glazes each dish by hand in her Vashon Island studio, so every piece is unique and has its own individual flair and flourish. Measuring about 5.75" in diameter with a delightfully decorative rim, Heinzman’s dishes are both objets d'art and lightly utilitarian, serving as perfect catchalls for all the bits and bobs you’re always losing track of: keys, hair pins, coins + such. They’re also food safe and hand washable in case your organizational needs are more of the snack variety.

Why We Love It

In true Heinzman style, this dish design is a meditation on the ever-present duality of the desire to escape to nature and the desire to control nature. Drawing inspiration from natural, organic shapes and forms, Heinzman layers brightly contrasting pigments with stylized geometric patterns to create this magnificently dynamic piece. The Ceramic Matte Catchall (yellow flower) features her striking signature motifs all over, with different decorative arrangements in play with one another on its outer surface.

Heinzman has honed her ceramic practice of hand coiling and cutting to produce breathtaking functional works as re-imagined plantlife, designed to live and grow with you. Whichever one(s) you love, move fast! There are only ten Ceramic Matte Catchalls and twenty Ceramic Glossy Catchalls to choose from, and our first Heinzman offerings were gone in a flash.
