Man With Boom Box, Staten Island
Select your print and framing options
After losing my Manhattan loft during the real estate boom of the early 1980s, I moved from lower Manhattan to the West Brighton neighborhood of "the forgotten borough" of Staten Island. I walked through the borough with a 4x5 camera and later with a medium-format camera. Every time I ventured out with the camera I felt a sense of adventure. This photograph, Man With Boom Box, Staten Island, was taken in 1984 in the South Beach area of the island. This photograph is part of our Art for Sandy Relief project released in collaboration with TIME's photo editors. All net proceeds of these editions support six local charities.
