Artist Statement

This image is part of an on-going formal study of Lake Erie. The photographs are shot from the same location over an expanse of time, documenting the ever-changing nature of the Lake. This particular photograph was taken in February; one of my favorite times of year on the Lake, when the landscape is transformed into a vast plain of ice and snow.

I've lived near Lake Erie on-and-off for the past 13 years, and during this time my love of photographing it has grown. Lake Erie has yet to lose its power for me. I am constantly amazed by how mutable it is--dramatically transforming with the weather and seasons. I consider my urge to take these photographs to be akin to a collector. I'm constantly on the lookout to add to the collection, and never sure if it is complete.
