Artist Statement

With today's A Genuine Fishing Smack, we're celebrating summer flings for 20x200's Vintage Editions. No, you're not seeing double, collectors. A Genuine Fishing Smack is a stereogram, a turn-of-the-century optical illusion meant to illustrate depth perception. To see this charming edition as intended, look at the image and cross your eyes ever so slightly until a third, 3D image appears in the center. Then you can properly take in this romantic view of a silhouetted couple embracing behind a sail, as the still waters and the sun's beams set the scene.

For our Vintage Editions series, our curators scour historical archives for both timeless classics and heretofore unseen gems. These images come back to life as exhibition-quality prints now available to everyone. As a bonus, purchasing equals patronage: Ten percent of the sales from Vintage Editions prints goes directly into the 20x200 Artist Fund, which helps support our current roster of artists. That furthers one of our core missions: helping more artists make a living by making work.
