Winter landscape with small snow-covered building on the coast and view of Mount Fuji, Vintage Edition

In this ukiyo-e woodcut print, Mount Fuji looms large against a multicolored sky. In the foreground, a snow-covered dwelling sits on the coast, a few spare, snow-decked trees at its side. On the water, a small wooden fishing boat carries a lone passenger, making his way home with the day's catch.

The simplicity of this winter scene—rendered in bold hues and delicate, meticulous ink strokes—underscores the power and beauty of the natural environment. Nature is, after all, the star of this arresting image. While human life plays a small part in the depiction, it serves more as a source of perspective, a foil for the majesty of the highest mountain in Japan.
