I look at the phenomena of the natural world through the lens of story and imagination. I take a "mad scientist" approach to art making: I create hybrid creatures by morphing together humans, plants, and animals. I'm interested in the interconnectedness of all life and the vulnerability we all share. The hybrid creatures I create arise from a blurring of permeable boundaries: those between flora and fauna, humans and animals, predator and prey, food seeker and food source, and the human and spirit realms. I see these "nature morphs" as mediators between worlds, inhabiting a hypothetical, plausible, other world constructed in the art studio yet solidly rooted in nature.

Artist - Amy Ross

Amy Ross

Boston-based artist Amy Ross was a religious studies major at Connecticut College and earned a Master's in Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School before studying art at the SMFA at Tufts University. Her work is fueled by a lifelong interest in folklore and mythology and a deep reverence for the natural world. Amy has had numerous solo exhibitions, including Jen Bekman and Jenn Singer Gallery in NYC, Kopeikin Gallery and Overtones Gallery in Los Angeles, and Steven Zevitas Gallery and Allston Skirt Gallery in Boston. Her work is in private and public collections nationwide, including the DeCordova Museum, Fidelity Investments, Wellington Management, Simmons College, and the West Collection.
