Artist Statement

Hanging donut art in your house or office is a good way of inviting more donuts into your life, that's certainly worked for me. Sure, looking at donuts will make you hungry, but that's not such a bad thing if it gets you out of the usual routine. For me, donuts are one way to find pleasure in an otherwise ordinary day. Painting donuts feels good, the rainbow sprinkles, the chocolate frosting, the little grid of raised dough that shows up on the glazed ones, they're familiar and delicious, but special. A donut day is a good day.

April V. Walters is a Floridian who always knew she’d end up in California. She is now a San Francisco-based artist, illustrator, and writer, but that wasn’t always the case. She tried music school, took a detour through the marketing department, and is grateful to now have a paintbrush in her hand. Her artwork is hanging in the homes of donut-lovers across the United States thanks to her three years running magnum opus, the Donuts of the Bay Area calendar.
