Artist Statement

The Soyuz TMA-14M spacecraft is seen as it lands with Expedition 42 commander Barry Wilmore of NASA, Alexander Samokutyaev of the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) and Elena Serova of Roscosmos near the town of Zhezkazgan, Kazakhstan on Thursday, March 12, 2015. NASA Astronaut Wilmore, Russian Cosmonauts Samokutyaev and Serova are returning after almost six months onboard the International Space Station where they served as members of the Expedition 41 and 42 crews.

Why We Love It

"I normally associate golden parachutes with unbridled capitalism and corporate greed, but this? This is a golden parachute I can get excited about. It's really such a stunning image, and while it has a distinctively retro feel that evokes the (heh) golden era of space travel, it actually documents a relatively recent event, namely the crew of Expedition 42's reentry into the atmosphere on March 12, 2015. It's a good reminder that space travel is still very much a thing, and that at least one cliché still has a ring to it: we should all keep reaching for the stars." —20x200 founder Jen Bekman
