Artist Statement

I've now painted over 600 Ideal Bookshelf sets, and the sheer quantity makes the project even more interesting for me, all those souls depicted through their 10,000+ favorite books. As you might imagine, I have a giant and ever-expanding list of books I'd like to own and/or read (and stacks of new books sitting in front of shelves that won't fit them). A couple times a year I try to collect what I've learned and make a few genre-based collections, highlighting some of the most amazing books people have chosen or recommended. I have a cookbook problem (i.e., there is no space left in our house for even one more, but that doesn't stop me), and recently I've been completely inspired by Christina Tosi's Momofuku Milk Bar, Ottolenghi's Plenty, McEvedy's Leon and Bi-Rite Creamery's Sweet Cream and Sugar Cones. But I still love the classics, including my mom's dust jacket-less copy of Joy of Cooking.
