Farm Days by William Wegman
11"x11" ($150) | 16"x16" ($750) | 20"x20" ($1500)
Tuesday greetings, collectors! Jen here, thrilled to be introducing our newest edition by the one and only William Wegman: Farm Days. This is a special release, with all net proceeds benefiting the pioneering + more-important-than-ever Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
It’s truly an honor to have this opportunity to support MOFGA and the vital work they do. MOFGA is the oldest and largest state organic organization in the country, devoted to supporting farmers and creating a healthy and fair food system for all since its founding in 1971.
What could be a better image than Farm Days to celebrate this important birthday? Hard to imagine a better fit than Batty and Crooky in their farmers’ best, you say? Well, when you’re as serious about the future of sustainable, organic farming as the folks at MOFGA are, you want to make sure that future farmers don’t have too romantic of a notion about the whole enterprise. It’s a big commitment and a whole lot of hard work, even if you have an amazing org like MOFGA in your corner.
But while Wegman's playful homage to Grant Wood's American Gothic might seem to portray farm life as simpler and easier than it is, Farm Days is actually the cover image of William Wegman's children's book by the same name. It’s a cautionary tale about how hard life on the farm can really be. In Wegman's story, City Boy Chip visits his country cousins, who subsequently trick him into doing all their chores. Realizing he’s not cut out for this stuff, he heads back to the city to pursue his jazz drumming career. (Hard work of a different variety, but still awfully tough. Good luck, Chip!)
As an established (part-time) Mainer, William Wegman is also a longtime fan of MOFGA and their mission, and he imagines that City Boy Chip might still be happily farming away had he only had their help! With all proceeds from this edition going to MOFGA, your purchase of a Farm Days print will provide support to a new generation of (human) farmers in Maine and beyond.
The edition is available in 3 sizes:
11”x11” | edition of 250 | $150 each
16’x16’| edition of 50 | $750 each
20”x20” | edition of 25 | $1500 each
As always, these are museum-quality prints, produced in NYC using archival inks and cotton rag paper, and every print is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity hand-signed by the artist. There is a limit of 3 prints per collector.
