I took this photograph while spending a month in Brazil. I was immersed in the center of Sao Paulo for most of my visit, with only a short break in Rio de Janeiro. The majority of my photos from this trip are of the dense urban settings and the denizens that populate them. This image was one of the rare exceptions of nature creeping into these scenes, where it became otherworldly due to the density of overlapping light sources in the city. It appears like a strange and alien figure reaching for the sky, while swallowed up in a world of concrete.
