Architect-turned-artist
Laurence
Srinivasan
(b.1970)
studied
at
the
Rhode
Island
School
of
Design,
and
the
ETH-Zurich.
He
has
worked
in
architecture
firms
in
the
US,
Switzerland,
and
Germany,
helping
design
the
WWII
Memorial
winning
competition
entry
with
Friedrich
St.
Florian,
and
working
with
Rafael
Vinoly
Architects
in
New
York
city.
After
working
many
years
in
Architecture
firms,
I
wanted
to
work
with
my
hands
building
things,
and
became
a
professional
model
maker!
I've
always
loved
woodworking
and
making
models
since
I
was
a
kid.
These
days,
a
model
maker
is
a
very
hi-tech
fabricator,
using

lasercutting,
3D
printing,
CNC
milling.
I
decided
to
start
my
own
business
in
2010,
making
my
first
product:
a
lasercut
wood
model
kit
of
Sutro
Tower
in
San
Francisco.
Since
then,
the
model
series
has
expanded
to
over
10
kits,
selling
in
Museum
Stores
and
online.
My
studio
always
has
about
5
different
projects
going
on!—from
furniture
design,
architecture
competitions,
to
commissioned
pieces,
and
other
collaborations.
I'm
fortunate
to
be
part
of
a
makerspace,
and
an
art
gallery
in
San
Francisco,
where
there's
a
strong
community
of
makers.
