Fay's daughters, Batty and Crooky, were the stars of Farm Days, my favorite children's book. They were exact opposites. Batty was laid back to the point of being narcoleptic while Crooky was always wide, wide awake. Even when she was asleep. They made a perfect duo.

In Farm Days, City Boy Chip (played by Batty's son Chip) visits his country cousins Batty and Crooky at the McFay Farm. They trick him into doing all their farm chores and when Chip realizes how hard it is to be a farmer he goes back to the city to a pursue a career as a jazz drummer. This seemed the perfect image for a benefit for Maine Organic Framers and Gardeners Association. I have been a fan of MOFGA and all they do for a number of years now. They have supported an ever growing group of farmers, both young and old, in the state of Maine and have become a model for a new generation, one committed to responsible and sustainable farming practices, across the country. If city boy Chip had met them he would still be happily farming away.

*100% of profits from sales of this print will be donated to Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners, broad-based community that educates about and advocates for organic agriculture, illuminating its interdependence with a healthy environment, local food production, and thriving communities. This is a special release, with all net proceeds benefiting the pioneering + more-important-than-ever Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. It’s truly an honor to have this opportunity to support MOFGA and the vital work they do. MOFGA is the oldest and largest state organic organization in the country, devoted to supporting farmers and creating a healthy and fair food system for all since its founding in 1971.

What could be a better image than Farm Days to celebrate this important birthday? Hard to imagine a better fit than Batty and Crooky in their farmers’ best, you say? Well, when you’re as serious about the future of sustainable, organic farming as the folks at MOFGA are, you want to make sure that future farmers don’t have too romantic of a notion about the whole enterprise. It’s a big commitment and a whole lot of hard work, even if you have an amazing org like MOFGA in your corner. Read more on the blog!
