New! Tantalizing tea towels à la Art Nouveau

Happy November, collectors! ‘Tis officially the season of eating. Holidays, gatherings, family, friends, and F-O-O-D are all upon us. You’re about to be spending oodles of time in the kitchen, so we cooked up a little something to brighten up your snacking space: Art Nouveau Tea Towels.

These 19”x28” tea towels are as gorgeous as they are handy—made with 100% cotton and machine washable (yay!). With the heartiest of holidays just around the corner, an Art Nouveau Tea Towel makes a perfect gift for an artful host. Or even treat your own kitchen to an enduring burst of vibrant hues to carry you through the colder months.

These gloriously rich kitchen towels feature three designs from legendary 20th century French artist E.A. Séguy: Red and Orange BudsPink Fronds, and Lavender Blooms. Each motif was originally included in Séguy’s 1925 portfolio of ornamental patterns, Floréal : dessins & coloris nouveaux.

A prominent figure of Art Nouveau and Art Deco, Séguy’s dynamic patterns were derived primarily from flowers, foliage, insects, and natural minerals. He achieved his sensationally saturated color palette using pochoir—a highly refined method of stenciling. Pochoir printing involved using multiple layers of pigment applied by hand resulting in dazzling effects of intensity.

We’ve been longtime Séguy stans, with his series of Papillons being some of our most consistent crowd pleasing prints. Now we’re delighted to introduce his brilliant semi-abstract designs into our kitchens just in time for the holidays. Art for everyone and everywhere!
