With Kamala Harris's campaign compositionally centered on Helena Wurzel's laptop and iPhone screens, Mental Load is the perfect answer to Harris's call to "Do Something!" —and we're proud to announce that it is 20x200's second benefit edition in support of Vote Forward.
“As soon as I saw Taylor Swift’s endorsement for the Harris/Waltz campaign, I knew that I needed to include both Kamala and Taylor in the painting. When it comes to issues like women’s reproductive rights, the personal could not be more political in this moment. Vote Blue!”, Wurzel explains.
We couldn’t agree more, which is why we’re proud to donate 20% of all net profits from this open edition* to Vote Forward through October 15th, the final day the print will be available. Why is it only available through October 15th? Because this is urgent and the time is now to get involved!
Utilizing her signature approach to depicting images from women’s lives by wielding flat areas of paint in an electrifyingly vibrant palette, the piece depicts Wurzel’s current workspace. From the thermos, which brilliantly protrudes from the frame, to the classic orange-handled scissors and scribbled notes to self, Mental Load—our twelfth edition with the beloved artist—is instantly relatable and viscerally alive.
In case you’re not already familiar with their work, Vote Forward is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization that empowers grassroots volunteers to send handwritten letters encouraging fellow Americans to vote. With a focus on mobilizing potential voters in communities that have historically been marginalized in the political process, Vote Forward supports partisan campaigns to encourage likely-Democratic voters to turn out in strategic states and districts. Letter writing is one of the most effective ways to help increase voter turnout, and Vote Forward makes the process both easy and fun. In short, we love them.
Wurzel's Mental Load looks like the mental load many of us are carrying these days. Yet her depiction of it is far more galvanizing than discouraging. Albeit busy, her space is bursting with color and activity; she's experimenting with new shapes and developing new ideas. Let yourself get caught up in her momentum and bring her energy into your home, all while supporting both the artist and the 2024 Harris campaign.
