Greetings, collectors! We’ve got a double debut today in celebration of illustrator and best-selling author Ann Shen’s brand new book, Revolutionary Women. This art-filled volume honors the amazing stories of fifty women of color who pushed boundaries, rewrote the rules, and inspired women everywhere to follow in their footsteps. With vibrant illustrations of these trailblazing women and the powerful words they’ve spoken, Shen’s book is an ode to strength. We’re highlighting two of the incredible women included—Dolores Huerta and Misty Copeland—with two new limited edition prints of their influential words: Sí, se puede and You Can Start Late.
Bold lettering and dazzling golden blooms are front and center in Sí, se puede. This phrase was coined by Mexican American labor activist Dolores Huerta, who has dedicated her life to improving the lives of migrant workers. Yellow cosmos flowers represent self-reliance and resilience, two characteristics that Huerta has in spades as she continues her unconventional and incredible work into her nineties.
You Can Start Late is inspired by groundbreaking ballet dancer and American Ballet Theater’s first Black Female Principal Dancer, Misty Copeland. The full quote reads, “You can start late, look different, be uncertain, and still succeed.” Copeland’s words are set against a deep purple background, fittingly framed by pink ballerina flowers.
Shen’s work amplifies women who used their voices and their passions to change the world, and we’re here for all of it. Shen is an illustrator, designer, and best-selling author behind many beautiful projects, including Bad Girls Throughout History, Legendary Ladies, and Nevertheless, She Wore It published by one of our favorite publishers: Chronicle Books.
