Our debut edition with Bay Area ceramicist Amber Costley of Warmth Ceramics, the mesmerizing, uplifting Topographical Gradient Catchall is a psychedelic dream—and makes the perfect gift, although you'll definitely want one for yourself as well. Costley started producing pieces out of her home studio during what she aptly calls "the dark, sad times of 2020", and thank goodness she did. The vibrancy of her work positively vibrates with an energy that is at once playful and vital.
"After hogging my kid's Play-Doh for years, I finally tried a ceramics class and never looked back. I love making functional pieces with a focus on natural forms, carved textures, and the brightest colors possible", Costley explains. The artist's digital design background folds seamlessly into the forms of her graphic clay pieces. She utilizes contrasting textures to offset deep, punchy glazes that showcase color better than any screen ever could. High chroma hues emit a glossy, lava-like glow from the grooves she’s carved into the rough, neutral sides of each tactile catchall.
We only have 20 Topographical Gradient Catchalls available*, and each is utterly unique in color, weight, and size (ranging from 3-3.5" in diameter and 1.75-2" tall). Substantial in density and generous in depth, these are showcase pieces–and they’ll accommodate earrings, rings, bracelets, a little collection of rocks and minerals, or your beloved palo santo sticks with ease. Costley’s art is meant to last a lifetime (especially since these are microwave and dishwasher safe), and is sure to bring joy to each day. Couldn’t we all use a little more of that?
*Limit of 2 catchalls per person
