See San Francisco is Victoria Smith’s love letter to the city that’s been my home-away-from-home for nearly 20 years now. Gorgeously produced and published by our friends at Chronicle Books, its pages feature the stunning vistas that draw visitors from all over the world right alongside all the quirky, magical, off-the-beaten-track pleasures that unfold as you get to know it.

It’s hard not to be captivated by the city as seen through Victoria’s roving eye, and it was nearly impossible to choose just two images to present here as 20x200 editions. Ultimately, I chose Potrero Hill and Chinatown because I love how beautifully they work together, both visually and in a living-with-these-will-make-me-so-happy kinda way.

Potrero Hill by Victoria Smith

Potrero Hill is shot uphill from Dogpatch, the ‘hood that I call home when I’m in SF. I’ve scaled those hills many times, and it remains a marvel to me that cars stay put when parked upon them. This particular photo highlights the city’s you-gotta-see-it-to-believe-it inclines, and its precariously perched VW Bug reminds me of the immensely talented Robert Bechtle’s paeans to Potrero Hill.

Chinatown by Victoria Smith

Chinatown is the see to Potrero’s saw. Its upward angles remind you to look above as well as around and that American Flag peeking through in the distance puts you right where you are; this magical otherworld you’re in couldn’t exist anywhere but the good old US of A. Its rounded lanterns echo the bug’s curves and both images have that soft, full light that’s so quintessentially SF and so hard to capture.

San Francisco is a city people love with a particular passion, and in these images Victoria gets at the essence of what's lovable. To live with these editions is to live with the magic of SF always, even if it's a love you have to leave from time to time.

Keep in mind you have just two days to get your hands on these prints! The number sold during those two days will determine the edition size, so these editions won't go into production until after that 60 hour period. Images will be printed on a matte paper, which imbues them with a softness that's both intentional and also likely to be more pronounced in the largest size.

With art for everyone,
Jen Bekman + Team 20x200
